BLUEJAY BOYS TOP LUMBERJACKS 7-1

In a game heard Friday right here on WJMT and wjmtfm.com and seen on our WJMT TV Channel on YouTube, the Merrill boys’ baseball team saw their record move to 8-11 with a convincing 7-1 victory over the Wausau East Lumberjacks in non-conference action at Athletic Park in Merrill.  Bluejays’ starter Quinton Kurtzhals went four innings and allowed only one unearned run before AmericInn Player of the Game Brody Klebenow (pictured) came in for the final three frames to earn the save. Merrill touched the Wausau East starting pitcher for five runs in the second before adding single tallies in the fifth and sixth innings off a sophomore reliever.  The Bluejays only committed one error in the game while managing nine hits on offense.

The boys’ return to conference action with single games on Monday against Mosinee and Thursday against Antigo, with a non-conference contest Tuesday against Auburndale.  Monday’s and Thursday’s games can be heard on WJMT and wjmtfm.com and seen on the WJMT TV Channel, with coverage each day beginning with the Nicolet Bank pre-game show at 4:45 and the first pitch at 5:00.  Tuesday’s girls’ softball game on the road against Antigo can be heard and seen at the same time and in the same places as they finish their regular season before beginning regional Division 2 playoff action on Tuesday, May 28.
